WP: All right, good morning Martha. What initiated your health and wellness journey?


Martha: Truthfully, when I was 39, my best friend said, "If you don't get fit by 40, you will never get fit." So for my birthday that year, she gifted me a year of a personal trainer. I’ve been training since then, and it’s been transformative.

WP: How has that training changed your life and personal goals, allowing you to enjoy the adventures and world travel that you love?


Martha: Fitness and health have served many purposes in my life. It has helped with stress management, mental health, and weight loss. I value these things deeply. For me, the gym is an anchor in my week. It gives me a sense of accomplishment every day. I train so I can be strong and able to do the things I truly want to do. Whether it’s putting my suitcase in the overhead bin or hiking up a hill, I want to enjoy life fully.

WP: What about the environment and the community at Willpower that you’ve noticed and enjoy?


Martha: I have tried every kind of gym over the last 30 years, from private gyms to hotel gyms and everything in between. What I appreciate about Willpower is the safe atmosphere. It's not intimidating at all. The people are friendly, and the front desk staff is awesome. I feel welcomed every time I come in.

WP: Have your long-term goals changed over time?


Martha: Absolutely! My goals have evolved from wanting to run one mile to being strong enough to lift my child and put his wheelchair in the car. My aspirations have shifted from looking skinny to focusing on mental health, strength, and resilience. The biggest takeaway for me is challenging myself. It’s about self-improvement, and no one else can judge that. My only competition is myself.
